Free Wedding Toast Samples

November 20th, 2008

Wedding toasts are a great way to wish the new couple well, but it can be hard to get it just right if you’ve never done it before. If you feel a lot of emotion about the union, it may be even more difficult to get the toast just right. Keeping it simple really helps, as well as keeping it short. Remember that a toast is simply a way to let the new couple know that you are excited for them, and that you were happy that they made you a part of their day. The more you try to put into a toast the more complicated it can be, so don’t try to pack too much into the toast.

Samples

Below is a very simple toast that you can use regardless of how well you know both of the bride and the groom. This is also a great way to make a toast when you really want to wish the couple well but you aren’t too sure what to say!

“First, I wanted to say congratulations to Bill and Nancy! I am so happy for the both of you and I know that today is the first day of what will be a very long marriage. I also want to thank the two of you for inviting me and making me a part of your big day. I know that there will be many more celebrations of your love and your marriage in the future!”

Below is a more intimate toast that you will find works well for close friends and family and will help you convey a bit more personal emotion.

“Congratulations, you two! I know that everyone is saying great things to you, but I had to get up and really express how happy I am for you. I know that both of you have been looking forward to this day for quite awhile, and I have to say that it couldn’t have been more beautiful. I know that you have a lot of great plans for the future and I can’t wait to sit back and watch them unfold for you. Congratulations, Bill and Nancy!”

As you can see, you can keep it really simple or you can add a bit more personalization to a toast. Usually a toast is just a few minutes long, so you don’t need to get into long stories or convoluted hopes for the new couple. Instead, keep things short and sweet but be sure to convey your happiness for the new couple. If you don’t know the personalities of both the bride and the groom well, keep humor limited and clean, just so that you are sure you don’t offend anyone.

Wedding Catering

November 18th, 2008

So what is wedding catering really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about wedding catering–info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

Many couples do not realize that the catering or food bill is typically your largest expense involved with your wedding (45-50% of most budgets). This is why it is essential to choose your caterer carefully. Spend plenty of time with your caterer talking about your budget, what style of reception you want (buffet, sit down dinner, cocktails, etc) and the types of food you’d like to serve.

If you are unfamiliar with the caterer, schedule a ‘tasting’ to sample their culinary skills and take not that food is presented attractively too. Another way to ‘check-up’ on your caterer is to check references. Many brides ask for references but never actually call them. Make at least 2 reference calls. Don’t be shy–ask questions.

When hiring your caterer, be sure to ask about the dinnerware or china they use. Some will include the dinnerware in their price, but it may be chipped, scratched, or worn down. Ask to samples to make sure the place settings will nicely compliment your wedding décor.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and wedding catering experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to wedding catering.

Service is a very important element when choosing a caterer. Be sure to ask about the ratio of servers to guests. This can vary depending on the type of reception you have. A good estimate is about one server for every 8-10 guests.

When determining a final head count for your caterer, be sure to include a meal for your entertainer(s), photographer and wedding day coordinator. But, always confirm with these vendors that they do want a meal before you include them in your head count. Make sure to separate these from your guest head count, because a caterer may charge less for ‘vendor’ meals.

Ask your caterer to prepare a ‘leftover’ basket with a sample of all the food at the reception. Most likely, the bride and groom will not get the opportunity to eat and enjoy all the food at the reception. Even if you’re leaving the next day for the honeymoon, it will be a good snack.

Be sure to ask your caterer about ‘guaranteed numbers.’ Many caterers will quote prices based on a minimum or ‘guaranteed’ number of guests. Many base their figures on a minimum of 100 guests. If your final guest count is less than 100, there may be an additional fee.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on wedding catering. Compare what you’ve learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of wedding catering.

I am a Christian You Can Trust Me!

November 18th, 2008

Have you ever heard someone say; I am a Christian so you can trust me? Well, if you have lived very long at all I’m sure you have heard this especially if you live in United States of America where is 90 percent Christian. Although not all 90 percent practice Christianity about 40 percent are fairly devout.

However, many of the people who call themselves Christian or only Christian in the name and not Christian in their hearts. In other words they are deceitful, dishonorable and completely lacking in integrity. This is rather disconcerting for other Christians who are devout and do believe in love and caring for their fellow man. “I am a Christian you can trust me” when you hear that, it is best to run and not stick around to find out what will happen.

If you are in business for yourself you have no doubt heard someone who is either a salesperson or another business trying to negotiate with you and making such a statement as; I am a Christian you can trust me. If you have had any experience at all with this you know the people who say that cannot be trusted.

It is rather sickening to watch people say that; I am a Christian you can trust me and then go out and screw people in disreputable business deals. But it is more common than not and you probably already know this, however if you do not watch out! Please consider all this in 2006.

The Hows and Whys of Altar Tools

November 14th, 2008

So there you are, a beginner to Wicca, and you ask yourself, “Gee, what are all these Wicca supplies for anyway? What am I going to do with Altar Tools?” Those are good questions, since we are in a religion where there aren’t many seminaries to teach Priests and Priestesses what’s what, and what special church supply store they need to go to so they can purchase the right chalice or vestment.

What Altar Tools do you need, anyway? What Wiccan supplies do you need to be a “real Witch?” And how do you remain “non fluffy” while doing this?

Here is a quick primer on Altar Tools and Wicca Supply. Just the basics, of course.

Athame: Beginner Witches always have trouble pronouncing this word. It is pronounced ah’ thuh may. Or, you can just call it that big ole Wicca knife. Nobody will be upset with you. You can buy many different types of athames, and since it will be your own personal Wiccan tool, you can tell those who might not like a nice wooden athame and say that the only “real athame” is a metal one with a blade that looks like it came out of Mad Max, that they can eat your Wiccan shorts. The athame is generally used to assist with casting a circle. Since you don’t use it to cut anyone, and you only brandish it to look cool (unless some naughty Wicca haters are hanging around your circle making threats), you can buy any type you desire.

Athames are also used to signify the God in the Great Rite.

Bell: Now why would any Wiccan need a bell? Is it the “dinner bell?” No! It’s the Altar Bell. And why does a Wiccan need an Altar Bell? As you should know, sound is very important during ritual. One learns to “vibrate” and “intone” with your voice, which helps the Gods to hear you. Same thing with an Altar Bell. The nice tones of a quality Altar Bell will let the Gods know that you would like an audience, please. The Bell is also used to cleanse energies at the end of a ritual.

Cauldron: You will find that most Wiccans LOVE cauldrons, especially cast iron ones and use them for many different things, some ritual, some not. They are most often used as vessels to hold lighted charcoal to burn incense, but they can also be used to make herbal remedies, or simply to cook chili.

Chalice: The Chalice signifies the Mother Goddess and is used to hold water on your Altar during ritual. The Chalice can be anything from a paper cup to a gaudy ornate jewel encrusted one. The Goddess doesn’t get upset with you for not buying the solid gold chalice. A beautiful silver or stoneware one will do just fine :-)

Offering Bowls: Having a nice set of offering bowls on the Altar is a “good thing.” How else will you hold the element of Earth? Offering bowls can be any type at all, from beautiful hand made jeweled ones, to little black scrying altar bowls, to the proverbial paper cup. As with all things Wiccan, it’s your choice.

Altar Cloths: An Altar cloth is essential to a “well dressed Altar.” It also protects the Altar from candle drips or other stains. Even experienced Wiccan practitioners find MANY candle drips after a ritual. Know that your Altar cloth WILL get drips. It is good if it is machine washable. You CAN buy that beautiful gold wrapped Altar cloth, but the first time the chalice full of wine falls, or the Mother Goddess candle drips red wax, you won’t be a “happy fun Witch.”

Wands: A wand is another item that you can use in circle casting, or in any other ritual where you wish to direct and focus your energy. Magickal wands are wands that you choose (either purchased or made….since Kestra must stay away from sharp objects, her wands are purchased), and charge with your own personal energies. Magickal wands can be metal, wood, plastic, or any kind of material you desire, but Kestra prefers wood. Wicca, the Earth, wood, you know…. that sort of thing. Different woods have different magickal uses.

Altar tools and Wicca supplies are very personal choices. If you know WHY you are making the choices you make, such as, “I want to use only white candles for this particular ritual because I feel that they will be appropriate” or “I must have a black offering bowl because I feel that only black should hold the Earth element” then that choice is a good one. Do not purchase tools or supplies because others tell you those are the things you “must have.” Look sideways at any who tell you that there is only one “correct” chalice, one “correct” cauldron, or one “correct” athame. They are all choices, and personal choices at that.

Blessings

THEY MUST GO

November 10th, 2008

THEY MUST GO (Excerpt from Chapter 10 - “Separation - Only Separation”) By Rabbi Meir Kahane, Zt”l

The question of transferring Arabs out of the land will drive them to a frenzied condemnation of Israeli policy. Their danger is their influence on large numbers of simple, good American and Western Jews.

The simplistic and demagogic use of labels such as “immoral”, “inhumane”, “un-Jewish”, and “Nazi-like” is likely to find a troubled, sympathetic ear with the ordinary, decent Jew. Thus, we will pay for all the years of deceit and delusions. For all those decades Jewish and Israeli leaders refused to tell the truth about the remedy of the Arab problem in the Land of Israel. They preferred to avoid it and to lie to world Jewry. It is not surprising that any sudden policy that calls for transfer of the Arabs will meet with astonishment and guilt. It is imperative that there begins, today, a campaign among world Jewry to explain the full extent of the Arab hatred and danger. The complete truth must be told to the masses of good Jews both to justify the need to remove the Arabs and to expose the dangers of the liberal Establishment bloc.

The Jewish opposition from within - that is the obstacle to successful transfer of Arabs and the saving of the Jewish state. There is no gentile problem, only the Jewish one of self-destruction.

The problem in the Jew who stupidly equates the transfer of Arabs with Hitler’s genocide of the Jews, as if we were advocating gas chambers or the killing of the Arabs in any form. As if the separation of Jews and Arabs will not save Arab and Jewish lives both! As if it is not precisely the policy of the perverted moralists that will lead eventually to the horrible bloodbath the Jewish realists see all too well!

How outrageously dishonest is the equation. How they cheapen and demean the terrible historical uniqueness and horror of the Holocaust, those intellectual dwarfs who equate it with any event they cannot abide! Did the Jews of Germany say that the land was really theirs, stolen from them by the Germans and that they would work until the day they became the majority and take the land and make it “Judea”? If they did, the Jews of Hitler’s time can be equated with the Arabs. Did the Jews of Europe massacre Germans, rape their women, burn their settlements, and vow to drive them into the sea? If they did, Europe’s Jews and Israel’s Arabs are the same. And if they did-if Germany’s Jews killed Germans and sought to take their state from them - Germans would have been justified in removing them from Germany and saving their country. But if, as really happened, the Jews sought, not to destroy Germany, not to separate from Germany, not to be independent of Germany, but to be good, loyal, fervent, assimilated Germans, then what the Germans did was horrible, and what the Jews who equate the murderous Arabs with the murdered Jews do is obscene. With no apologies, no defensiveness, no hesitation, the Jew rejects with contempt the gentilized Hebrews and the neo-Hellenists. He knows the Jewish response to threats to destroy people and state: “If one comes to slay you, slay him first” (Sanhedrin, 72d). “Do not be overly righteous” (Ecclesiastes 7). “Said Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish: He who becomes merciful unto the cruel is destined to be cruel unto the merciful.”

How cruel are the overly righteous, the carriers of perverted morality, the unthinking, the gentilized. How many Jewish women and children will die because of the mercy of the overly righteous to the cruel? The foolish children, the twisted adults, all calling in the name of “humanity” for the destruction of the Jewish state - they will be the problem, nothing else.

Sovereignty of God and the Gospel

November 10th, 2008

What does the recent tsunami, the terrorist attacks on 9/11, The Holocaust, the Great Depression, the sinking of Titanic, the rise and fall of the great Roman Empire, and the execution of Jesus all have in common? The God of the Bible is ultimately responsible for all seven events in history!

There is a powerful yet obscure verse in the Bible that I believe heralds this the loudest. The Old Testament book of Isaiah reads, “That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things” (Isaiah 45:6, 7). In other words, the God of the Bible controls all things at all times.

If you have been blessed in life, those blessings have ultimately come from this God. If you have experienced suffering or have been beset by tragedy, this too, ultimately came from the hand of the same God. The Creator of the universe is sovereign over His universe; otherwise He is no God at all. God makes no apologizes for how He governs the world, nor does He seek counsel as to how to rule it. He is God. He is the independent, self-existent, and self-sufficient One.

One of the age old questions that skeptics demand answered is, “If God is all-powerful and all-loving why does He allow suffering and evil in the world?” That is a legitimate question if the ones asking it desire to know the Biblical truth behind it. Though that question cannot be adequately addressed for lack of space, the Bible does address it. In short, the God of the Bible wants you to know that though He is sovereign and has predestined all things, whether good or bad, to accomplish His eternal purposes, He is also a God of divine and perfect love.

Do you need biblical proof of that? The Apostle John stated two thousand years ago that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). How did God give His Son? God “gave” His Son over to wicked men to be crucified in order that sinners like you and I can be reconciled to the very God we have offended by our lawlessness against Him.

Who ultimately killed Jesus? The same sovereign God did! In the same book of Isaiah, less than ten chapters from the first text we read, and centuries before Christ came to earth, we read of Jesus the Messiah, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed…And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all…Yet it pleased God to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief” (Isaiah 53).

The tragedies mentioned above are but a few reminders that mankind cannot control his or her destiny. God does. And though calamity is often included in His plan, He has also decreed love to be found only in Christ Jesus. And He demonstrated His love in the crucifixion of His Son.

The Magic of the Night Sky

November 8th, 2008

I love the night sky. There is something comforting, mysterious and hopeful about standing under a canopy of swirling stars. Each summer I go camping alone in Canada’s beautiful northland to satisfy a hunger for solitude, wilderness and the night sky. Away from city lights there is nothing more awe inspiring than a star studded sky in the stillness of the wilderness.

I usually set up camp beside a lonely northern lake providing me with a long horizon and an uninterrupted view of the heavens. As darkness approaches I begin to sense an overwhelming closeness to the mysteries of the universe and a strong connection to the source of all that is. I become aware of an alternate rhythm to life - a rhythm which is so easily lost amidst the frenetic pace of contemporary existence. Embraced by darkness, with stars too numerous to count and comforted by the gentle lapping of the waves I begin to realize how much I miss living in a city with its incessant, invasive brightness. It is as if I am rediscovering an enormous part of a lost spiritual heritage..

When sleep begins to engulf me and my eyes start to close, I reluctantly move toward my camper not wanting to miss a moment of this celestial display but realizing that I can’t resist the call to slumber any longer. In the warmth of my sleeping bag I let the silence and stillness lull me to sleep with the immortal words of Sophocles gently echoing across the centuries, ” Mortal I know I am, short lived. Yet whenever I stand beneath a multitude of swirling stars I no longer tread this earth, but rise to feast with God and enjoy the food of the immortals.” And so to sleep.

On The Riverside

November 8th, 2008

The silence that a person has when in nature is awesome. Yes you end up hearing leaves, water, animals, and other things, but it’s truly remarkable how peaceful the forest is. People these days really have no clue how marvelous everything is when we allow God to show us through his heart. If we listen and meditate on God long enough, he’s sure to say something to us. We have to be willing to listen though, and not discount what is being said. Satan will do everything he can to keep us from listening to God.

I was walking down a path next to the river. While walking, I started asking God to reveal what it was he had in store for me; what exactly it was he wanted from me and our relationship. I knew that I needed time to allow Him to talk and for me to listen, so I started to look for places along the bank to sit. There were plenty of trees, bushes and other forest-like things that blocked an open spot. It was rather warm next to the water and the breeze that flowed through the trees gave an awesome feel to the air. Walking down the path, I had already started asking God to sit, and show me things he wanted me to know. I soon looked down and saw three snapping turtles. They were lying on the driftwood in the water, basking in the sun. As reptiles, they need to find ways to stay warm, so it’s always been interesting to me to watch them.

God said, “Sit here, and we’ll talk.”

As I went to clear a decent spot and sit down, all the turtles scurried off into the water. I sighed a little because I wanted to watch them a bit more. So I sat down, closed my eyes, and started to pray. I thought about the horrific details of Jesus’ crucifixion. The torture, beatings, physical weakness, and emotions of this day became real in my mind. This was the first time I truly understood what happened to Jesus on that memorable day. He did this out of obedience to the Father, love, compassion, duty, and our future relationship with us between himself and God. When Jesus understood the weight of the sins he was taking responsibility for, he asked God as his Lord, not his Father, why he had forsaken him. This had to be one of the hardest things God had to do. He turned his back on his only begotten son. I imagined myself having a son, and the feelings I would have if I had to allow him to be sacrificed for something, and for me to lose him in every way I know him to be. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t think I’m even close to being that strong. I couldn’t do it. That in itself tells me that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are the only ones that can give me strength in my faith. Glory to God…

While sitting and praying, I would periodically open my eyes and look to see one of those turtles making its way back up onto the log. Every time I would move just the slightest, it would dive into the water. I watched this happen several times before I heard a voice telling me something important. I listened intently to that message, and there were actually two parts. Both were very vivid and strong.

Noticing how the turtles were so skittish, I started playing with them in my own weird way. I tested how much movement I could make before it freaked and took cover under water. Almost like a brick up side the head, this is what I got:

When God starts working in our lives; we tend to get scared and take a dive. He moves in so many ways in our lives that it still amazes me each time. We back away from a situation that God has called us for in fear of failure, and not wanting to get too involved. We mostly don’t like our little world changed and uprooted in what we believe. Once we’re under cover and feel like we no longer have to do what God wants of us, we climb back up and ask in a fraudulent way for God to work with us. As soon as he does start working, we head for cover again. Each time God tries to get our attention it’s in a different way. He’ll move boldly at first, and then try a more subtle approach later. Just like I tried to move with more subtle gestures, well it’s the same with God. He’ll do whatever it takes to get our attention, and eventually it’s going to be a bold statement if we won’t listen.

We don’t tend to like how God is doing his work and that the sacrifices he calls of us. We’re comfortable just going to church on Sunday without actually having to impact someone else’s life. We as human beings put God on this pedestal, we fear him in the wrong ways. This fear causes us to back away from God and not allow him to nurture our spirit. Fearing God isn’t a fear of his grand power. It’s kind of like a respect we would have for a person we know in our life that has had an impact on us; someone that we agree with on moral issues, wisdom, and whatnot.

One thing though, God only gives us what He knows we can handle, and he never gives up.

The next thing on the agenda God wanted to cover was that no matter how many times our circumstances seem to get the better of us, we’ll overcome that obstacle. It’s a struggle sometimes to keep our eyes on the prize; the eternal life with God, but our focus should be for that power over our weaknesses. We must allow ourselves to be strong in what we believe, and know that there is an end to the current madness.

When we are in the valleys of our life, it’s like being under water. We feel like we can’t breathe, our chest is tight and we can’t come to the surface for that refreshing intake of air. We feel like we’re drowning in life’s sorrows and problems. Like the turtles, we can’t stay under too long or we’ll drown. No matter what our circumstances may be, we strive to look into the face of God. Once we’re out of the water or valley, we stand strong on the mountains; on the driftwood as the turtles do, and raise our arms to our Father and say, “Thank you God, it was your Grace and leadership that I was able to find my way out of this. I am blind and too weak to do all of this on my own.” Therefore, by continuing to keep a lookout for God, our situations get easier, and harder to handle at the same time. We have to learn by experience how to stand strong and come out of the valley unscathed. Stand up and tell Satan that he has no power over us, then reach for our Father for his love and comfort. God in turn will always reach down and protect us and hug us in his wonderful arms. So in faith and the Glory of God, we’re strong as Christians to fight for that surface; for that refreshment of air. In turn God will do more with us because we have that experience under our belt. He’ll use that knowledge in a most wonderful way.

Those messages remind me to overcome every obstacle. They remind me to stand up, dust myself off, and keep looking to God for support, love, grace, and strength. No one can take that away.
